In college, I did a master copy of a Syd Mead concept of the Mars Rover for the film, Mission to Mars. Syd Mead has been such a great inspiration to me and while recently I've been working in 3D, this will remind me to draw more. Thought I would share.
A while back I got an opportunity to design a commemorative pin for the 50th Anniversary of America’s first satellite - Explorer 1. After the job was done I was invited to join the dinner celebrations at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. It was an awesome night with live rover demonstrations. Also, I got to meet some of the early space pioneers as well as NASA Mission Leaders planning future unmanned expeditions to Mars and Jupiter’s icy moon Europa.
Mars Needs Moms was the first film I worked on at IMD. I had the great pleasure working under the art direction of Doug Chiang and with many other talented artists - should look amazing. In the coming weeks I look forward to sharing some of my design work from this project. It’s in theaters March 11th so go check it out!
